A new iconic character representing your brand through top-quality games couldn’t possibly be a bad thing. Especially since a family-friendly 3D platformer like Astro Bot is also the type of game that the PlayStation’s library has been lacking. The ever-growing install base of the PS5 has allowed many players around the world to enjoy Astro’s Playroom. Filled with references to hardware throughout PlayStation’s history and boasting an abundance of cameo appearances from popular characters, Astro’s Playroom celebrated PlayStation’s history in a unique way. This made Astro not just the new kid on the block, but established the bot as a character integral to the PlayStation brand. This became The Playroom, Team Asobi’s first game. The Playroom came preloaded with the PS4 when it launched back in 2013 and functioned as a showcase of what the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 controller could do.

Astro Bot

It truly takes advantage of all the different features the PS5 remote offers and is just pure awesome joy. It wouldn’t be an Astro Bot update without new Special Bot cameo appearances, and now we know a few that players can discover. One is the protagonist of Sucker Punch’s upcoming Ghost of Yotei (which is receiving a special State of Play).

Astro Bot’s abilities, such as high jumps, hovering, and special gadgets, allow for creative movement and problem-solving. Each level presents new challenges, from navigating tricky terrain to overcoming environmental hazards. As galaxies are explored and Bots are rescued, Astro Bot’s hub world stations begin to unlock, including a closet with outfits for Astro and a claw machine that gives players a place to spend all their collected coins. The machine dispenses new Astro costumes, cosmetic options for the PS5 controller spaceship, and joy for the rescued PS-themed Bots.

This means that after the thrill of the game’s nostalgic moments wears off, there is not much reason to play after its 15 hours are up. These occasionally repetitive enemies are also an important part of Astro Bot’s difficulty. The main levels are never too tough – the real challenge is finding all the bots and collectibles – but there are special secret levels that test your skill. These have no checkpoints, so they’re not for the faint of heart. Yet they never fall into the trap so many platformers do of cranking the difficulty up way beyond reasonable levels and changing the game’s essence. Astro Bot can be punishingly difficult, especially the final gauntlet once you have every collectible in hand, but it never feels unfair.

More recently, this was followed by Astro Bot’s Winter Wonder update, a free, Christmas-themed level with plenty of fun holiday surprises for players to discover. If you have read my Astro Bot review, you must be already aware of how this game is an elated love letter and a rich celebration of Play Station’s legacy. https://f168.direct/ has the outright power and quality to challenge your perception of platformer games and it will make you say it duly earned the GOTY 2024 once you take Astro Bot for a spin. There are more levels like the Ape Escape one, in which Astro fully absorbs the personality and toolkit of another PlayStation hero and romps through a level based on that character’s own games.

Doucet expressed his gratitude to the decades of platformers that came before Astro Bot, which also took home awards for Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Family Game, and Best Game Direction during the ceremony. In that spirit, we’ve pulled together 7 tips and tricks we think will prove helpful for those diving into Astro’s irresistibly charming universe for the first time. When you’re ready to move on, check out our guide to all the collectibles in the starting two levels, Sky Garden and Creamy Canyon.

Here, hundreds of rescued bots congregate and can be used within the hub to rescue even more bots. Puzzle pieces are used to create images of objects that then become additional buildings for players to interact with in the hub world. The first one players build is the gacha machine that they will remember from Astro’s Playroom, and that’s where the majority of one’s coins will be spent as well.

What Are All Special Bots In Astro Bot? Jill Valentine – Alpha Female

Each level across five main galaxies and one unlockable one features a swarm of bots (many based on beloved PS characters) to rescue, as well as jigsaw pieces and some secret black holes too. Here, you’ll find your one-stop shop for every single collectible in the game, and the Trophies too, arranged into each zone Astro blasts off into. Astro Bot is technically the fifth entry in the Astro universe, though it’s the series’ first fully fledged — and fully priced — installment.

On the cute side of things, Astro reacts to his environments with endearing animations like shivering in the cold, quivering in fear and tapping his tiny metal feet in excitement, and his bot friends are similarly expressive. When Astro boops his head on an impassable ceiling, he makes the sweetest little flinching motion. The bots turn around and shake their booties at Astro right before he punches them into the DualSense. On the pause screen, you can flick all of your collected bots out of the digital controller and they flail in mid-air before landing safely back inside the touchpad. Entire levels are built around Astro Bot’s power-ups, but most aren’t just one-off gimmicks. The story kicks off as Astro is sailing across the cosmos with hundreds of his buddies on their PS5 mothership, just enjoying their quant robot lives.

Astro Bot (ps – Review

To talk around Astro Bot’s most entertaining of these surprises, I’ll mention that it will occasionally rethink its mechanics as a whole, nearly swapping genres at times, in ways that pay homage to PlayStation’s illustrious past. These special levels arrive toward the end of each galaxy’s main mission path and bestow to you a bundle of themed bots as well as yet another cool new mechanic not to be seen ever again in the game. Its soundtrack–already an array of bubbly earworms–reimagines familiar overtures from other games. In doing all of this for these most-special one-offs, the promise of its world comes into full view.

The game on ps5 i’ve been waiting for since i got one basically… The switch has remained my most played platform after all these years because of the lack of games like this, for me the essense of gaming… The image quality is superb, showing off the vibrant and detailed worlds wonderfully.

For 30 years, Sony has given us a vast library of top-quality PlayStation games, but there has never been a mascot platformer among them to rival the heights that Nintendo’s Mario regularly reaches. Packed with dozens of colourful levels and experimental abilities, Astro’s latest outing thrusts him onto centre stage, joined by a supporting cast of PlayStation’s past heroes to provide hours of pure joy. Bursting to the seams with charm, Astro Bot is an inventive, nostalgia-fuelled platformer of the highest order. ASTRO BOT is the award-winning, critically acclaimed platforming adventure, exclusive to PlayStation®5.

I play with my controller mic off by default, and I’d find lifting it up to my mouth to be immersion-breaking. @rjejr Don’t get me wrong, it makes full use of all DualSense’s features — you’ll be tilting the controller and blowing into the mic (and yes there is a little bit of that climbing mechanic from Playroom, but just the one level). I am very happy to see Astro Bot is such a polished 3D platformer. Back to mid budget single player titles without all the heavy stakes attatched if it fails. Considering the industry is influx, it’s not farfetched this will be the go-to again.

Astro Bot took what players loved about those tech demos and expanded upon them immensely into a fantastic platforming experience. In this game, players once again have to save Astro’s crew across multiple galaxies. Along with that, they also have to repair their PS5 mothership and experience the history of PlayStation through collectibles, unique levels, fun little robots, and so much more.
